Team Lieberman Holds Off Late Rally, Iwuala Named MVP
PHOENIX (April 4, 2026) – Team Lieberman held off a late rally from Team Miller to earn a 72-69 victory in the 2026 Lilly Women’s College All-Star Game on Saturday morning at Global Credit Union Arena. Team Lieberman led for more than 32 minutes, built a game-high 16-point advantage in the third quarter and made enough plays down the stretch to close out the three-point win in front of an announced crowd of 4,982.
Christeen Iwuala led Team Lieberman with 15 points and eight rebounds to earn the contest’s MVP honors, while Nyla Harris added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Jessica Timmons scored 12 points, Bailey Maupin contributed nine points and Bella Fontleroy filled the stat sheet with four points, five assists and two steals as Team Lieberman finished with a 42-30 edge in points in the paint and a 42-25 advantage in bench scoring.
Team Miller was paced by Darianna Littlepage-Buggs, who posted 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Ny’Ceara Pryor added 13 points, four assists and four steals. Ra Shaya Kyle scored eight points, Yarden Garzon chipped in eight and Amiya Joyner and Elle Ladine added seven points apiece in the loss.
After Team Miller scored the game’s first four points, Team Lieberman responded with a 13-4 run midway through the opening quarter to seize control. Timmons knocked down an early three-pointer during that stretch, while Brooklyn Meyer and Harris added baskets to help Team Lieberman take an 18-15 lead at the end of the first period.
Team Lieberman extended its lead in the second quarter and carried a 39-32 advantage into halftime. Maupin scored six points in the period, McPhaul added five and Team Lieberman shot a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the quarter to maintain separation.
The margin grew to its largest in the third quarter. A Maupin three-pointer opened the second half, and Team Lieberman eventually stretched the lead to 50-34 with 7:21 remaining in the period. Team Miller answered behind Littlepage-Buggs, Garzon and Joyner, trimming the deficit to 60-54 by the end of the quarter.
Team Miller’s comeback bid continued in the fourth. Littlepage-Buggs scored back-to-back baskets to pull her team within two, and Kyle’s layup tied the game at 60-60 with 6:36 remaining. Team Lieberman responded with timely baskets from Timmons, Harris, Elliott and Iwuala, then got a late free throw from Iwuala with 49 seconds left to account for the final margin. Team Miller got within 71-69 on a Pryor free throw with 1:06 to play, but could not complete the comeback.
For the game, Team Lieberman shot 41.2 percent from the field and 80.0 percent from the foul line, while Team Miller shot 42.9 percent overall. Team Lieberman also finished with a 44-37 rebounding advantage and forced 17 Team Miller turnovers.
“The experience was incredible,” said Iwuala. “I was honestly surprised by how welcoming and engaged everyone was from the start. It felt like a true team effort, with coaches focused on helping us grow and put ourselves in the best position to succeed. It was a completely different atmosphere from other showcases I’ve attended, and I felt like I was coached really well and able to put my best foot forward.”
