Intersport Launches Women’s College All-Star Game Beginning in 2024

October 18, 2023

CHICAGO (October 18, 2023) – Twenty-five years after launching a national women’s college basketball all-star event, Intersport is announcing plans to re-introduce the Women’s College All-Star Game, an annual showcase spotlighting the country’s elite players that will take place in the host city of the women’s college basketball national championship beginning in April 2024.

Every season, superstars emerge as the faces of college basketball, and the Women’s College All-Star Game will serve as a celebration of their talents. These standouts, who will be exhausting their collegiate eligibility and are on the precipice of hearing their names called in the WNBA Draft, will have one final opportunity to represent their programs and be recognized against the backdrop of the sport’s championship weekend.

“Women’s basketball deserves this platform to celebrate these athletes and their accomplishments, and we’re excited to provide a stage for the nation’s best to come together at the Women’s College All-Star Game,” said Charlie Besser, CEO of Intersport. “Fans have shown a strong and growing interest in women’s sports, demonstrated most recently through attendance at major events and in television viewership. Reviving the Women’s College All-Star Game, which we founded in 1998, is a meaningful experience for these great players and also a unique opportunity for college basketball fans to see the best all in one place.”

This season’s event will take place at Cleveland State University and is tentatively scheduled for mid-afternoon on April 6 – the day between the women’s national semifinals and championship game and prior to the start of the men’s college basketball national semifinals later that evening. Teams will be determined with the help of a distinguished selection committee, which will be made up of women’s basketball experts and other industry leaders with meaningful connections to the sport. Additional information surrounding NIL components, national television broadcast details, coaches and other game information will be announced at a later date.

Intersport launched the inaugural Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-Star Challenge in 1998, which the WBCA operated through 2006. The Chicago-based agency was also a longstanding partner with the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame and ESPN to stage the prestigious Women’s Tip-Off Classic that annually featured the sport’s top programs in high-profile matchups as part of ESPN’s early season programming. Today, Intersport continues to operate major men’s and women’s college basketball events throughout the season, including the CBS Sports Classic, the Elevance Health Women’s Fort Myers Tip-Off, Arizona Tip-Off and other major showcase events that will be broadcast across CBS, FOX, NBC, ESPN, FS1 and more. Intersport also annually operates two major postseason all-star showcase events during championship weekend, the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships and the High School Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships.
